Role Summary
As a Software Engineering Manager at Google, you will hold dual responsibilities of technical leadership and team management. Your role will include guiding engineering teams focused on full stack development encompassing backend and frontend technologies, setting strategic priorities, and ensuring the delivery of scalable and optimized software systems. You will manage projects spanning multiple teams and global locations, overseeing product roadmaps and budget allocation to maintain Google’s technical infrastructure and platform development.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and communicate team priorities aligned with organizational objectives to ensure cohesive strategy and decision-making.
- Set clear performance and development expectations for team members, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Develop and continuously refine mid-term technical goals and roadmaps according to evolving infrastructure and project requirements.
- Lead system design initiatives within the broader technical scope and contribute hands-on by writing code to resolve complex and ambiguous challenges.
- Review and critique code from team engineers to uphold best practices in style, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field with at least 8 years of software development experience.
- Minimum 3 years of full stack development expertise, including backend languages like Java, Python, Golang, or C++, and frontend technologies such as JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- At least 3 years in a technical leadership capacity coupled with 2 years in people management or team leadership roles.
- Preferred advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
- Experience in navigating complex, matrixed organizational environments for at least 3 years is an advantage.
