This role will subsequently support SpinCo's focus on critical digital infrastructure, offering power and thermal management for AI data centers and other mission-critical uses.

Role Overview

The Electrical Quality Design Engineer, based in Dundalk, Ireland, is charged with ensuring the precision, compliance, and technical integrity of electrical designs associated with low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. This involves supporting design verification, engineering governance, and driving ongoing improvements to meet standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent evaluations of electrical designs to ensure adherence to project and customer standards as well as engineering norms.
  • Review single line diagrams, schematic and wiring drawings, bills of materials, general arrangement drawings, and other technical documentation.
  • Confirm conformity with international standards such as IEC 61439, IEC/TR 61641, and the IEC 60947 series among others.
  • Ensure design verification complies with IEC 61439 and is properly documented.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Testing teams to resolve quality and technical issues.
  • Identify risks, nonconformities, and areas for design improvement during review sessions.
  • Engage in root cause analysis and support corrective/preventive actions implementation.
  • Maintain and develop design review processes, quality checklists, and engineering standards documentation.
  • Keep detailed and accurate engineering records aligned with document control procedures.
  • Support engineering standardization and continuous improvement efforts across departments.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including Electrical and Mechanical Design, Production, Testing, Procurement, and Technical groups throughout project phases.
  • Assist with internal and external audits tied to design compliance and quality management.
  • Adhere strictly to health, safety, environmental, and quality guidelines and company policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience in design, manufacture, assembly, testing, or commissioning of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Vault, AutoCAD Electrical, and Inventor software tools.
  • Good understanding of IEC 61439 and associated design verification requirements; familiarity with IEC/TR 61641 and IEC 60947 standards is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage power distribution and switchgear applications.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single line diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
  • Effective communication skills enhancing cross-functional collaboration.
  • Capacity to manage priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Hands-on approach with sound technical judgment and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Experience in design validation, routine verification, or compliance assessments of low-voltage assemblies preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles related to switchgear.
  • Experience operating within ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering change control and document management processes.
