Job description

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at Coder within the Agentic Engineering team, you will lead efforts to build and refine systems that enable our innovative agentic development experience. Your domain will include the agent harness, integrations, and workflows that link autonomous agents to real development environments. You'll maintain hands-on involvement while guiding the technical direction of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the technical vision and direction for Coder’s agent harness, integrations, and workflow systems.
  • Develop production-level software primarily in Go, with contributions in React and TypeScript where applicable.
  • Enhance agent execution models, tool integrations, context management, streaming capabilities, and support for extended workflow durations.
  • Progress the provider-neutral architecture of our platform as new models and capabilities arise.
  • Lead challenging projects from initial uncertainty through successful production deployment.
  • Elevate engineering quality via thoughtful design and code reviews and mentoring team members.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Design teams to deliver intuitive agent experiences.
  • Optimize system reliability, performance, and operational ease for agentic systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven substantial experience designing and running production software systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with Go programming language.
  • Experience with front-end technologies React and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on involvement with large language models (LLMs) and agentic workflow development.
  • Practical knowledge of model APIs, tool invocation, context handling, or agent operation loops.
  • Strong understanding of distributed system concepts.
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure services.
  • Capable of independently steering technical strategies without formal managerial authority.
  • Sound architectural insight and confidence handling ambiguous challenges.
  • Committed to fostering growth and skill development within the engineering team.

Technical Environment

  • Backend: Go, PostgreSQL
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes
  • Monitoring and Observability: Prometheus, Grafana
  • Continuous Integration and Delivery: GitHub Actions

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience building developer tools, coding agents, or cloud-based developer environments.
  • Expertise in multi-agent systems or agent tool design.
  • Proven ability to design abstractions across diverse model providers.
  • Deep operational experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux.
  • Active involvement in open-source software or direct customer engagement.
