Senior Engineer - Platform Engineering (Cloud Infrastructure)

Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team based in Sydney. This hybrid role requires office presence three days per week, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure supporting vital business systems at News Corp. The position involves active coding, tooling creation, and tackling infrastructure challenges alongside a skilled team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure with some involvement in Google Cloud Platform.
• Write and manage infrastructure as code utilizing Terraform with Terragrunt while adhering to established standards.
• Create and sustain automation tools and scripts primarily using Python.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development using tools like GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Engage in incident resolution and problem management for supported platforms.
• Monitor platform performance and health via CloudWatch, Splunk, SumoLogic, New Relic, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Identify and address cloud security vulnerabilities aligned with team and security policies.
• Maintain compliance with security, privacy, and organizational policies in all operations.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers, platform leaders, and product teams to deliver effective cloud solutions.
• Document technical processes and platform details clearly for diverse audiences.
• Interact with customer teams to gather requirements and tailor solutions to their needs.
• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Strong hands-on expertise with AWS core services including VPC, IAM, Organizations, and governance.
• Proficiency in Python programming for automation, tooling, and Lambda functions.
• Experience with Kubernetes, specifically Amazon EKS, along with GitOps tools like ArgoCD.
• Solid infrastructure as code skills using Terraform; familiarity with Terragrunt is advantageous.
• Background in CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Competency in administering Linux environments.
• Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms like CloudWatch, Splunk, SumoLogic, or New Relic.
• Familiarity with GCP services such as Compute, IAM, VPC, Cloud Run, and GKE is a plus but not mandatory.
• Experience working within Agile methodologies and using productivity tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Capability to write effective documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
