About the Team and Organization
The Cisco Common Platform Services (CCPS) team is redefining Cisco’s delivery of software-as-a-service by building a modern, unified, and secure platform for all products. This global team implements innovative strategies for managing hybrid cloud infrastructures, concentrating on platform management services with ongoing evaluation of infrastructure and operations to maximize efficiency and accuracy. Their expertise spans Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), deploying applications securely and rapidly with repeatable and portable delivery frameworks.
Within CCPS, the Cloud Software & Solutions (CSS) group focuses on creating and improving OpenStack and Kubernetes platform solutions prioritizing quality, stability, usability, scalability, performance, and ease of operation. They are seeking a Software Engineer to design and implement scalable cloud-native applications and associated services.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement foundational elements of the cloud-native ecosystem, emphasizing Kubernetes layers and their underlying infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain automation tools for managing Kubernetes cluster lifecycle, including configuration and upgrades.
- Enhance platform modules that support Kubernetes networking, storage solutions, security, and resource allocation.
- Work collaboratively with Site Reliability Engineering, security, networking, and application teams to deliver reliable, scalable platform capabilities.
- Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to boost development productivity, improve code quality, and streamline troubleshooting.
- Engage in on-call rotations, incident management, and post-mortem reviews to maintain platform reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum four years of experience in software development or cloud/platform engineering roles.
- Proficient in programming with Go (Golang) or Python.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native technology stacks.
- Strong foundational knowledge in networking concepts.
- Advanced debugging and problem-solving capabilities within large-scale systems.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools, such as Terraform.
- Experience working with at least one leading public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
- Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance engineering efficiency and quality.
- Experience using observability platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing or working with large or multitenant Kubernetes clusters.
- Knowledge of OpenStack platforms in private or hybrid cloud environments.
- Skills in testing frameworks and test-driven development methodologies.
- Understanding of security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance standards such as SOC 2, PCI-DSS, or GDPR.
- Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, or developer platform enablement.
