Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to elevate REDAPL, Datadog's Referential Data Platform, which monitors infrastructure resources and their relationships to empower insights on performance, cost, security, and more. REDAPL currently supports products such as Cloud Security Posture Management, Resource Catalog, Cloud Cost Management, and Service Catalog, processing upwards of 4.5 million updates per second.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a query engine optimized for complex relationship traversals with high-demand workloads.
- Design and lead critical projects enhancing platform scalability, resilience, and value across various teams.
- Provide architectural leadership and mentorship to engineering teams on platform decisions.
- Analyze system risks and reliability trends, proactively designing effective solutions.
- Advise on prioritizing engineering-driven initiatives in strategic planning and roadmaps.
- Collaborate closely with internal product teams to understand their requirements and support product scaling through REDAPL integration.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or possesses equivalent experience.
- Experienced in working with diverse data store types.
- Several years contributing to platform or infrastructure-focused engineering efforts.
- Track record of leading impactful technical projects emphasizing performance, cost-effectiveness, usability, and system resilience.
- Strong backend engineering experience with operational knowledge of distributed systems at scale.
Desirable Qualifications
- Familiarity with Graph Databases including Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, or PuppyGraph.
- Experience using Apache Iceberg in production environments.
- Understanding of query planning concepts or involvement in production-level query engines such as Trino, Calcite, Substrait, or DataFusion, supported by open-source contributions or project leadership roles.
