FieldCore, part of Gas Power One Field Services, supports installation, maintenance, and upgrades of power generation equipment to help global energy operators deliver reliable and affordable electricity.

Role Summary

The Rigger I position involves handling highly specialized rigging tasks necessary for moving and lifting extremely heavy objects in locations inaccessible by common material handling equipment. Tasks include installing power plants and oilfield equipment and maintaining existing units. Responsibilities are assigned by the crew chief or field supervisor, with additional duties supporting FieldCore's vision and core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct or signal colleagues during hoisting operations to ensure safety of personnel and materials.
  • Inspect and test rigging gear to guarantee safety and dependability.
  • Secure loads to rigging apparatus using manual and powered tools.
  • Select appropriate rigging gear, including slings, shackles, and winches, based on load characteristics and schedules.
  • Manage movement of heavy equipment through tight or confined spaces using equipment like chain falls and gin poles.
  • Manipulate suspended loads by tilting, turning, or dipping using multi-point suspension methods to clear obstacles.
  • Operate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling tools to transport or support heavy materials.
  • Clean and prepare machine surfaces and parts after handling.
  • Fasten pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures using bolts and clamps.
  • Disassemble and store rigging equipment post-use.
  • Employ correct rigging apparatus and techniques to ensure safe lifting practices.
  • Perform work under challenging weather conditions, including temperature extremes and strong winds.
  • Embed safety considerations throughout all job activities and encourage a safety-focused culture among staff and visitors.
  • Support and utilize Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for tasks and assist team members accordingly.
  • Participate actively in scheduled safety training and meetings.
  • Take part in routine equipment and tool inspections.
  • Identify unsafe behaviors and near-miss events.
  • Contribute to safety and environmental incident investigations to determine root causes.
  • Comply with STOP Observation and Near Miss programs.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned, including occasional travel.
  • Be prepared to work during holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Entry-level trainee position to assess candidate fit based on attitude, skills, and ambition.
  • Completion of basic skills training covering fundamental concepts and procedures relevant to rigging.
  • High school diploma with related mechanical experience such as carpentry, lifting, or crane operations.
  • Certifications in rigging or auxiliary material handling equipment are strongly preferred but not mandatory.

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with power generation equipment, including gas and steam turbines.
  • Correct application of rigging tackle capable of safely lifting designated loads.
  • Ability to identify specific shackles, beam clamps, and various sling types with their color codes.
  • Understanding of mandatory emergency stop signals for safety.
  • Comprehension of approved safe work systems and method statements related to rigging.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes (pendant, cabin, or remote control).
  • Working knowledge of forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, tractors with lifting arms, and overhead cranes.
