Role Overview

The Steam/Gas Mechanic's main role is to safely install, maintain, and repair heavy rotating machinery primarily used in power generation. Working collaboratively with supervisors, environmental health and safety (EHS) teams, and operations staff, this position helps ensure the reliable functioning of power infrastructure. Other related responsibilities may be assigned to support FieldCore's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use hoists, cranes, chain falls, hand and power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, and measuring instruments to dismantle, assemble, move, and align machinery and equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to guide work processes.
  • Manage shipping, receiving, inventory, and control of tools, equipment, and major components at T&DC.
  • Conduct inspections of materials and equipment using precise measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.
  • Perform machining and welding to fabricate parts for lab and shop training equipment.
  • Identify equipment specifications and prepare parts lists for purchasing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components required for projects.
  • Handle loading, transportation, unloading, and mechanical/electrical maintenance or repair of materials and tools.
  • Install machinery and equipment in accordance with layouts, blueprints, and industrial design drawings.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed for field assignments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • At least one year of experience in maintenance, dismantling, and installation of industrial machinery including pumps, motors, fans, generators, and turbines.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Preferred: Degree or Associate Degree in a technical field or Gas Turbine Systems.

Desired Skills and Traits

  • Proficient in disassembling and reassembling complex rotating equipment encompassing bolting techniques, hydraulic bolting, flange management, small bore piping, basic rigging/lifting, and operating overhead cranes.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, effective oral communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive jobs and adhere to schedules within demanding operational contexts.
  • Capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
