Role Overview
The Planning team in Dexcom's Athenry manufacturing facility translates customer demand into actionable production plans, collaborating across Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Engineering, and Global Supply Chain to ensure timely, efficient, and compliant product delivery. As a Senior Buyer, you will oversee procurement of direct and indirect materials, coordinate with diverse teams to maintain supply continuity, optimize inventory, enhance supplier performance, and assist scaling manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, adjust, and expedite purchase orders aligned with MRP outputs and inventory policies.
- Develop supplier forecasts facilitating capacity and material availability planning.
- Manage procurement activities across assigned supplier portfolios for both direct and indirect materials.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted supply chain operations.
- Set and uphold inventory strategies balancing manufacturing needs and inventory controls.
- Monitor inventory levels to limit excess and obsolete stock.
- Analyze supplier delivery performance; initiate corrective measures to enhance service levels.
- Participate in supplier relationship management and business review processes.
- Work jointly with suppliers, Supplier Quality, and Quality teams to resolve supply chain and quality challenges.
- Oversee supplier interactions related to Engineering Change Orders and product lifecycle modifications.
- Address purchase price variances, accounts payable discrepancies, and support Material Review Board processes.
- Contribute to cost reduction and local sourcing initiatives with Global Procurement.
- Provide insight and assistance to maintain BOM accuracy, item data, and configuration management.
- Ensure adherence to Dexcom’s regulatory and quality standards, including FDA regulations.
Success Factors
- In-depth knowledge of purchasing, material planning, inventory management, and supply chain methodologies.
- Ability to interpret demand forecasting, supplier commitments, and inventory data for decision-making.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, preferably Oracle, in managing procurement functions.
- Capability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships with effective negotiation skills.
- Effective collaboration across multiple functions including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Procurement.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or related field.
- At least 6 years’ experience in purchasing or procurement in manufacturing environments.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems, Oracle preferred.
- Strong grasp of purchasing processes, material planning, inventory management, and MRP.
- Familiarity with configuration management, bill of materials, and item master data maintenance.
- Proven supplier management and procurement execution skills.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to influence and engage stakeholders to drive improvements.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork skills.
- Self-driven and capable of independently achieving results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in regulated industries such as Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, or Biotechnology manufacturing.
- Background supporting manufacturing start-up, scale-up, or commercial operations.
- Exposure to Oracle Fusion, Oracle EBS, or comparable ERP platforms.
- Professional credentials such as CIPS, CPSM, or CPM.
- Knowledge of Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP).
- Experience handling supplier quality, supply continuity, and engineering change management.
