Job Overview
This position involves comprehensive warehouse operations within either a large warehouse segment or as the lead materials handler in a smaller facility. Key duties include receiving, storing, assembling for shipping and distribution various supplies, materials, and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Receive and unload incoming shipments, verify documentation against packing lists, and report discrepancies or damage per protocol.
- Prepare items for shipment at the loading area according to shipment requests, inspect shipping containers, and ensure proper loading onto transportation vehicles.
- Plan and sequence loading of materials to maximize space utilization and maintain safety and damage prevention.
- Organize warehouse storage layout, set item locations, and manage stock arrangement efficiently.
- Conduct inventories by counting item types and quantities, maintain tallies, and investigate discrepancies through recounts or locating misfiled stock.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts (lifting capacity up to 25,000 pounds), warehouse tractors, and stock selectors.
- Pack and repack a variety of items using standard packing materials and techniques.

- Mandatory acquisition and maintenance of a Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) operator license and hazardous certification.
- Role designated as Mission Essential requiring availability during emergencies in assigned or alternative duty locations.
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) authorized; Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) not authorized.
- Position supports various shifts within DLA Distribution Europe in Germersheim, Germany.
- Requires compliance with Overseas Rotation Agreement - 36 month tour length.
Qualifications and Physical Requirements
Applicants will be evaluated based on qualification standards for trades and labor. Emphasis is on demonstrated skills, experience, and training rather than solely time served. Previous volunteer and paid experiences qualify toward requirements.
- Physical demands include frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting items up to 40 pounds; heavier loads moved with equipment or assistance.
- Work environment includes indoor and outdoor warehouse conditions, occasionally subject to extreme temperatures, dampness, poor lighting, dust, or grease.
- The job carries risk of physical injury, including cuts, bruises, falls, and potential exposure to hazardous or radioactive materials.
- Use of personal protective gear such as hardhats, steel-toed footwear, gloves, masks, and aprons may be necessary.
