Job description
Role Overview
The Manufacturing Technician plays a critical role in supporting machining operations by managing complex machine setups, diagnosing issues, inspecting product quality, and assisting other machinists to ensure smooth production workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and operate manual and CNC machinery for precision and complex manufacturing tasks.
- Analyze engineering blueprints, CAD drawings, and job documentation to execute machining jobs.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and adjust machine offsets as needed.
- Optimize machining parameters such as feed rates, speeds, and offsets to maximize quality and reduce cycle times.
- Assist fellow machinists with machine setups, tool replacements, and troubleshooting technical challenges.
- Perform inspections on initial and ongoing production parts using calibrated measurement instruments.
- Document production metrics including quality, scrap rates, and machine downtime.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance and promptly report equipment malfunctions.
- Uphold rigorous standards in quality assurance, workplace safety, cleanliness, and 5S methodology.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes.
- Serve as a resource and contact point for less experienced machinists when needed.
Essential Experience
- Practical experience working in a machining or manufacturing facility.
- Proficiency in setting up manual and CNC machines.
- Capability to edit and adjust numerical control (NC) programs.
- Comprehensive understanding of machining operations, cutting tools, and conditions.
- Familiarity with manual inspection techniques and measurement tools.
- Completion of a time-served apprenticeship or an equivalent technical certification.
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to turning, milling, grinding, gear cutting, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), or turn-mill centers.
- Knowledge of Fanuc and/or Heidenhain CNC control systems.
- Experience with Zoller/EZ Set or manual tool setting devices.
- Competence in coordinate measuring machine (CMM) operation and result interpretation.
- Familiarity with ISO programming standards.
- Background in manual machining and applying 5S workplace organization.
Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to established safety, quality, and environmental protocols and risk assessments.
- Report any accidents, near-misses, potential hazards, or quality issues without delay.
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and operationally efficient work area.
- Take actions to minimize waste, reduce utility consumption, and correctly manage waste disposal.
