About the Role
Summit Air is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Planner to join the team on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Maintenance Operations Manager, you will lead maintenance planning tasks tailored to operational demands, staffing considerations, financial budgeting, and various projects. This position is resident-based, open for work in either Edmonton, Alberta or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and forecast both short-term and long-term maintenance plans that minimize operation disruptions while factoring in staffing requirements, budget impact, and project timelines.
- Oversee procurement and management of parts, materials, and tools necessary to support maintenance activities.
- Create maintenance schedules and detailed work packages covering tasks such as airworthiness directives, service bulletins, and Supplemental Type Certifications (STCs).
- Manage administrative controls related to maintenance planning including budgeting, forecasted labor hours, and accurate job cost tracking.
- Collaborate closely with Operations teams to guarantee adequate operating hours and carefully schedule aircraft out-of-service periods.
- Ensure completion of scheduled maintenance within specified time frames to maintain airworthiness.
- Assist maintenance teams in managing Minimum Equipment Lists (MELs), overseeing deferred defects, and tracking recurring defects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preference for candidates holding a College, Trade, or Technical Diploma focused on Aviation or Aircraft Maintenance.
- At least 4 years of experience in aircraft maintenance is ideal, but highly capable maintenance planners without this experience may also be considered.
- Prior experience in maintenance planning and supervisory roles is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance schedules, procedures for maintenance planning, approval processes, and airworthiness restrictions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and knowledgeable in aircraft and inventory management software.
- Ability to identify process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.
- Competence with budgeting processes and job costing is highly preferred.
- Highly organized and task-oriented with excellent prioritization, logical reasoning, and objectivity in managing multiple competing responsibilities.
Working Conditions & Schedule
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
- This is an onsite role based in either Edmonton, Alberta or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories offices.
