Job description
Job Overview
This role is based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital with responsibility for managing the comprehensive key control program, including the maintenance and security of mechanical and electronic locking systems. The Locksmith will also support other health sites such as Glenrose and Norwood and may be required to assist at additional locations within the zone as directed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all activities related to the hospital's key control program ensuring secure handling and distribution of authorized keys.
- Maintain and update the master key hierarchy to safeguard secure integrity.
- Service, repair, and replace mechanical and electronic locks and associated hardware.
- Identify and resolve issues related to access controls in adherence to established policies and building codes.
- Perform journey-level locksmith tasks including installation, maintenance, and upgrades of locking systems.
- Work in accordance with existing key control policies and hospital standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Locksmith Certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
- Grade 12 diploma is required.
- Demonstrable experience in locksmith trade with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to perform patiently and attentively in a hospital environment, including exposure to traumatic events.
- Experience or knowledge in electronic door control systems is considered an asset.
- Prior work experience in hospital, industrial, or institutional maintenance environments is beneficial.
Working Conditions and Terms
- Full-time regular position with a 1.00 FTE commitment.
- Shift pattern includes days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a 2-week cycle totaling 10 shifts per cycle.
- Shift length is 7.75 hours per shift.
- Salary ranges from $37.58 to $41.56 per hour.
- Position falls under the AUPE GSS Union within the FM&E Program at Alberta Health Services.
