Job description
Job Overview
This role involves assisting the kitchen team with meal preparation, sustaining a clean environment, proper management of food and equipment, and ensuring efficient daily kitchen operations with a focus on maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and food quality.
Key Duties
- Support chefs and cooks by handling basic tasks such as washing, peeling, slicing, measuring, and portioning ingredients.
- Follow instructions from the Chef or Kitchen Supervisor to prepare ingredients and kitchen essentials.
- Keep the kitchen, including work surfaces, tools, utensils, equipment, and storage spaces, clean and hygienic.
- Wash and neatly store dishes, pots, pans, and all other kitchen items.
- Help receive, inspect, store, and arrange food supplies appropriately.
- Ensure all food products are correctly labeled, stored, and handled obeying food safety regulations.
- Track kitchen inventory and alert supervisors about shortages or damaged goods.
- Participate in stock rotation efforts and minimize food waste.
- Properly dispose of kitchen waste and maintain cleanliness in waste areas.
- Assist in kitchen setup before cooking begins and clean up once operations conclude.
- Adhere to all guidelines related to food safety, hygiene, health, and workplace safety.
- Handle kitchen equipment responsibly and promptly report any issues.
- Provide extra support during busy periods to maintain smooth and timely food preparation.
- Carry out any additional kitchen duties assigned by senior staff or management.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum educational qualification of SSCE/WAEC or equivalent.
- Prior experience in kitchens, restaurants, hotels, catering, or any food service sector is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety protocols.
- Ability to work well in team settings and follow directions.
- Physical fitness to handle a demanding and fast-paced workplace.
- Neat appearance, responsibility, punctuality, and focused attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and accept guidance from senior kitchen personnel.
