Job description
Role Overview
The Rigging Foreman at Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions acts as a Subject Matter Expert in rigging and movement logistics within the piping production workshop and projects. Reporting to the Head of Piping Production Workshop and supervising the Rigging Supervisor, this role commands technical and organizational leadership in managing the production process for handling and moving piping systems and components between workshops. The incumbent ensures compliance with contract scopes, statutory codes, IMS procedures, and other technical standards, all while prioritizing safety in material lifts and movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead specialized critical lifting and rigging tasks, including arranging crane and forklift services.
- Manage all logistics concerning pipe shop and onboard piping, particularly pipe and material transport.
- Lead and supervise rigging teams to secure loads and execute lifts adhering to yard safety protocols.
- Coordinate with crane operators to ensure seamless scheduling and timely material availability for operations.
- Organize forklift operations for the efficient shifting of pipes.
- Work closely with Production Engineers to facilitate pipe preparation processes such as coating, blasting, painting, and galvanizing.
- Liaise with transport sections to manage outside yard operations including transport for galvanizing and afloat services.
- Apply comprehensive engineering knowledge to address production management challenges, optimizing efficiency, cost, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee resource allocation – physical, human, and financial – to achieve maximum productivity at minimal cost.
- Monitor daily manpower and manhour usage on projects, reporting discrepancies and adjusting allocations in consultation with the section manager.
- Review and ensure compliance with piping section Work Instructions and Risk Assessments covering all piping activities.
- Follow up on project documentation post-vessel completion, including technical reports and lessons learned.
- Prepare and manage work permits and risk assessments to identify, control, and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Regularly review and update Risk Assessments and Environmental Aspects & Impacts in alignment with current safety practices and obtain necessary approvals.
