Position Overview
We invite applications for the role of Exploration Lead at Barrick Mining Corporation's Bulyanhulu site in Tanzania. This position is focused on leading exploration efforts to discover world-class orebodies within gold and copper districts. The successful candidate will join a dynamic exploration team combining global resources with local expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee planning and execution of near-mine and regional exploration projects, aligning with country strategy, budgets, and business goals.
- Drive processes from target identification through geological modeling, drilling, and assessment to advance resource discovery and growth.
- Ensure rigorous technical standards in geological interpretations, drilling operations, sampling, quality assurance, and exploration data management.
- Lead, manage, and develop the site exploration team by setting clear responsibilities, encouraging collaboration, technical excellence, and high performance.
- Supervise drilling contractors and consultants to meet safety, productivity, quality, cost, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards including Journey to Zero, Global Drilling Standard, environmental regulations, and applicable ISO requirements.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, forecasts, and operational risks, taking corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track.
- Support external relations such as stakeholder engagement, land access, compensation processes, permitting, and license adherence to allow uninterrupted exploration activities.
- Provide timely and accurate technical, operational, safety, and financial reporting with clear recommendations to senior management.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geoscience from an accredited institution. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are advantageous.
- Between 10 and 15 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a background preferably in orogenic gold systems, VMS, and IRGD deposits.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years in senior technical or project leadership roles managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven experience leading near-mine and regional exploration programs from target generation to drill evaluation.
- Strong commitment to safety, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.
- Experience in notable exploration districts and Tier 1 ore bodies, with evidenced discovery achievements preferred.
- Thorough understanding of mineralization models and geological processes.
- Competency in integrating geological, geophysical, and geochemical data.
- Extensive field exploration experience in Africa and/or the Middle East.
- Self-driven and discovery-focused with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modeling software; familiarity with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, and ioGAS considered beneficial.
- Effective communication and reporting skills able to present technical and business information clearly to diverse audiences.
