Job description

Position Overview

Join Barrick Africa Middle East Team as a Resource and Database Manager to support and enhance our operational excellence. We seek candidates who embody Barrick's core principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, safety, and partnership, aiming to create sustainable value through committed teamwork.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely completion of mid-year and end-year resource data and workbooks as per Senior Leadership Team requirements.
  • Accurately compile and submit the annual NI43-101 resource report.
  • Perform reconciliations across inferred, indicated, measured stopping areas and Ore Reserve related data, submitting biannual performance trend reports.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly QAQC data reviews identifying errors or biases, escalating concerns to management, and liaising with laboratory managers.
  • Maintain weekly database updates and prepare quarterly audit reports to ensure data integrity.
  • Update Grade Block Models quarterly with accuracy and precision.
  • Evaluate and propose innovative methodologies for mineral resource estimation to enhance confidence in models.
  • Prepare and gain approval for quarterly resource charts and reports, ensuring milestones and revisions meet scheduled timelines.
  • Complete shift reports accurately and submit within set deadlines.
  • Gain thorough knowledge of host lithologies, alterations, and structural influences at the North Mara gold deposits, collaborating closely with onsite teams.
  • Re-log historical core samples incorporating advanced geological insights to refine geological models.
  • Develop, coach staff, and implement pXRF logging protocols using geochemical fingerprinting for critical rock units.
  • Optimize and establish efficient logging procedures and codes specific to North Mara deposits, providing onsite training and development.
  • Support geological interpretations and cross-section productions alongside project geology teams.
  • Collaborate with resource teams to construct 3D models of significant geological controls.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with key internal departments including exploration, resource management, underground operations, project, and technical services.
  • Mentor and develop geological staff within MRM and Exploration groups.
  • Lead or participate in essential initiative implementations and provide technical input for growth drilling programs, near-mine exploration, and feasibility assessments.
  • Deliver presentations and facilitate skill mentoring with peer review support as needed.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties as required.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Advocate and sustain the Journey to Zero safety culture.
  • Ensure all personnel are aware of their Duty of Care and comply with safety protocols.
  • Verify critical controls in tasks with fatal risk twice weekly and conduct regular safety audits and interactions.
  • Provide safe work environments and necessary tools or PPE for staff.
  • Enforce adherence to North Mara Gold Mine safe work standards and procedures.
  • Encourage reporting of near misses, ensure rapid incident reporting and involvement in investigations (ICAM).
  • Lead participation in safety and toolbox meetings and supervise rigorous field-level risk assessments for new tasks.
  • Ensure personnel training and certification are up to date for designated tasks.
  • Correct hazardous or unsafe workplace issues promptly.
  • Guarantee safe and appropriate usage of facilities, plant, and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with mine planning and design standards as well as job safety analyses completion.

Environmental Management System Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for the EMS effectiveness aligning with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Maintain availability of EMS resources and communicate compliance importance.
  • Promote continual EMS improvement and support managerial leadership in environmental responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology or related disciplines such as Engineering or Metallurgy.
  • Active professional registration in good standing.
  • Strong knowledge of mining operations, safety policies, and competency frameworks expected.

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience including at least 5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Proficiency with geological modelling software like Seequent Leapfrog and Maptek Vulcan.
  • Advanced understanding of mineralogy, geochemistry, and structural geology within gold depositional systems.
  • Experienced in handling databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Background in gold deposit geology, mine geology, or near-mine exploration.
  • Strong analytical, logical thinking and great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Valid manual driver's license with mine site driving experience.
  • Experience working in either open-pit or underground mining environments.
  • Capability to work under pressure with a focus on compliance and training in dynamic operational settings.
  • Effective planning, coordination, organizational, leadership, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly committed with enthusiasm and alignment to Barrick's corporate values.
