Canva Print consists of over 110 professionals spread across Australia, the Philippines, and the United States, with a technology team of more than 70 members primarily located in Sydney. The team manages the entire print workflow from discovery, design, and purchase of print-on-demand items to collaboration with manufacturing and delivery partners globally. The focus is on developing an e-commerce-driven Print experience aimed at growing annual revenue while maintaining sustainability, including initiatives such as planting one tree per print.

Role Overview

We seek a seasoned Engineering Director to lead the Canva Print engineering teams. This leadership role involves strategizing technical goals, mentoring engineering leads, making high-level technical decisions, and fostering a safe, high-achieving culture. The position is Sydney-based but offers flexibility including remote work.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the technical strategy for Canva Print, working closely with Product and Design leadership to establish clear objectives.
• Mentor and develop Engineering Leads, building a strong leadership pipeline.
• Maintain oversight of technical quality and lead major engineering decisions.
• Effectively communicate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders to guide decision-making.
• Create and nurture an inclusive and growth-focused environment, handling hiring and performance management.
• Drive engineering's impact on commercial performance and revenue.
• Advocate for AI adoption both in product features and engineering processes.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in engineering leadership at scale, including coaching and managing engineering managers.
• Strong technical judgement and ability to involve appropriate expertise when necessary.
• History of translating technical strategies into actionable, deliverable roadmaps.
• Commercially minded with an understanding of how engineering intersects with business results.
• Excellent communication skills and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Adaptability to evolving roles in a rapidly growing and ambiguous environment.
• Experience in e-commerce or marketplace businesses is advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to foster inclusive, high-performance cultures and handle conflicts and performance reviews fairly.
