Job description
Overview
Be part of the team revolutionizing global design experiences. We invite applications from candidates based in Sydney for this hybrid role that mixes remote work flexibility with collaborative on-campus sessions at a thoughtfully designed Sydney office in Surry Hills. The workplace culture supports empowerment and balance to achieve team goals effectively.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop, design, and implement software solutions collaborating closely with engineering leaders, designers, and product owners to enhance Canva's worldwide user experience.
- Primarily use TypeScript to rebuild core editor components, with opportunities to contribute to React Native and other native platforms.
- Improve editor performance by leveraging data and metrics for identifying problems, prioritizing tasks and measuring impact.
- Create frameworks, tools, and libraries that enable other engineers to build high-performance features efficiently.
- Own challenging technical problems by decomposing complex projects into manageable steps, driving them from conception to deployment.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and foster cross-team cooperation to further improve overall goals.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive commercial software engineering experience on complex, large-scale applications, SDKs or APIs.
- Advanced skills in TypeScript, adept at navigating extensive legacy codebases and understanding systems and types beyond their own work.
- Experience influencing architectural decisions and enthusiasm for tackling sophisticated engineering challenges rather than routine development.
- Proficiency with performance analytics including metric instrumentation, dashboard evaluation, and data-driven prioritization.
- Strong foundations in computer science concepts such as asynchronous programming, data structures, design patterns, system design and architecture.
- Genuine curiosity about software performance internals. Bonus points for experience with browser rendering, event handling, WebWorkers, WebGL/WebGPU and familiarity with native rendering or JavaScript engine internals.
- Effective communication, collaboration skills and eagerness to share expertise and solve complex technical issues alongside peers.
Team Context
