Job description
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Die Setter / Press Setup Operator to join our metal stamping manufacturing team in Danbury, CT. This position involves independently preparing and operating progressive, compound, and secondary stamping dies. The candidate will ensure efficient production operations while upholding quality and safety guidelines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up stamping dies and press machinery according to production schedules and work orders.
- Operate power presses and associated production equipment with minimal oversight.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with dies and presses during setup and ongoing production to reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with toolmakers to address stamping defects such as slug pulling, misfeeds, scrap accumulation, part ejection problems, and dimensional discrepancies.
- Conduct initial and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- Interpret blueprints, work directives, and quality criteria accurately.
- Carry out routine machine maintenance to support equipment reliability.
- Contribute to developing and updating operational instructions and process documents as required.
- Count, clean, and record finished parts for production reporting and inventory management.
- Maintain a safe, well-organized, and productive workspace.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- At least five years of experience in setting up and operating stamping presses and dies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and effective troubleshooting capabilities.
- Familiarity with progressive, compound, and secondary stamping techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
- Proficiency using precision inspection devices, including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Capability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to evolving production demands.
