Role Overview
The Environmental Coordinator role within the Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) department at Geita Gold Mine supports the Senior Supervisor and Workshop Manager in ensuring compliance with governmental, internal, and insurance environmental regulations across HME and Light Mobile Equipment (LME) sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion safe work procedures ensuring all activities align with Geita Gold Mine's safety and environmental protocols.
- Oversee coordination of environmental inspections, manage communication schedules, maintain checklists, and facilitate both internal and external audit processes for HME and LME zones.
- Ensure adherence to legal compliance, hazardous materials handling, waste management strategies, and environmental standards, while addressing any audit and inspection follow-ups.
- Enhance environmental awareness through conducting training, toolbox talks, offering technical guidance, and collaborating closely with contractors, HSE representatives, and the environment team.
- Supervise waste segregation practices, maintain 5S standards, uphold housekeeping in scrap and salvage yards, and monitor spill kits, washing ponds, water separators, and hydrocarbon spill prevention measures.
- Timely reporting of environmental incidents, injuries, or illnesses; tracking of corrective action plans; and supporting environmental performance maintenance within engineering operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: Minimum Form Four Certificate; trade certification in mechanical trades or advanced studies in maintenance management or environmental disciplines; possession of Grade One Trade Test certificate, Diploma or FTC in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or a Degree in Mechanical or Environmental Engineering.
- Must hold a valid Tanzania Driving License.
- Experience: At least five years in environmental roles related to mobile equipment, with a minimum of three years in supervisory capacities managing teams up to twenty personnel across continuous shifts.
- Proven competence in developing scopes of work for contracted projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office and SAP software; operational knowledge of mobile machinery including loaders, forklifts, tele-handlers, and boom trucks.
- Strong understanding of waste segregation, spill prevention, and workshop environmental control methods.
- Excellent English communication abilities, both verbal and written, complemented by strong interpersonal, leadership, initiative, and coordination capabilities for multi-team collaboration.
