Overview
As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play an essential role in fostering profitable expansion within our SME commercial insurance portfolio. Collaborating closely with intermediaries, clients, and internal teams, you will evaluate risks, aid in renewals and new business efforts, and develop underwriting solutions that deliver outstanding customer results while promoting portfolio growth and strong performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee renewal and new business opportunities, crafting customized underwriting options that enhance client retention and drive portfolio expansion.
- Establish and nurture robust relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and business partners to ensure excellent service delivery and positive customer experiences.
- Contribute to meeting goals for growth, profitability, and portfolio outcomes by conducting accurate risk evaluations and sound decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with distribution, operations, claims, and underwriting departments to provide seamless experiences for customers and partners alike.
- Handle digital referrals and participate in projects aimed at improving underwriting workflows, system capabilities, and client satisfaction.
- Seek and propose opportunities that support innovation, automation, and ongoing process enhancements in underwriting functions.
- Uphold a strong culture of risk management and performance by complying with underwriting policies, guidelines, and governance standards.
What We Expect From You
- Professional experience in commercial underwriting, insurance, or related roles within the general insurance sector.
- Solid grasp of commercial insurance products, foundational underwriting principles, and risk assessment methods.
- Proven ability to cultivate effective partnerships with brokers, intermediaries, customers, and internal staff.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with capacity to balance business objectives and risk controls.
- Familiarity with the New Zealand commercial insurance marketplace and SME industry segment.
- Possession of relevant industry certifications or tertiary education qualifications is advantageous.
