Job description

Position Overview

The Agricultural Quality Control Supervisor operates remotely from Lagos State to manage and enforce comprehensive quality control measures throughout the agricultural supply chain. Responsible for guiding field inspectors and ensuring all agricultural goods comply with stringent physical, chemical, and safety criteria, this role centralizes quality governance, emphasizing SOP development, audit management, non-conformance handling, and full traceability from vendor sourcing to delivery.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain standard operating procedures for inspecting, grading, sampling, and moisture and foreign matter testing of commodities.
  • Set acceptance and rejection quality limits aligned with buyer specifications for agricultural products supplied by various regional vendors and farms.
  • Create standardized inspection checklists and receive quality verification frameworks.
  • Supervise vendors, suppliers, and aggregators to guarantee conformity to quality standards before commodity pickup or dispatch.
  • Review and approve vendor certifications, moisture control documentation, and lab test results prior to operations authorization.
  • Conduct ongoing supplier evaluations including remote quality audits and initiate corrective actions for repeated issues.
  • Oversee field quality control agents remotely by planning inspection schedules and assessing inspection reports in real time.
  • Control quality during vendor loading, transport conditions, and warehouse offloading to uphold parameters such as temperature, moisture, packaging integrity, and traceability.
  • Manage sampling protocols for both internal and external laboratory testing and maintain centralized records, including certificates of analysis, non-conformance, and rejection documentation.
  • Produce regular quality reports for senior management featuring vendor yields, rejection rates, spoilage losses, and corrective measures.
  • Serve as the final authority on borderline and non-compliant commodity lots, resolve supplier disputes with documented evidence, and coordinate with operational teams to prevent compromised goods from reaching clients.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Agriculture, Food Science & Technology, Agronomy, Quality Management, or related disciplines.
  • Between four to six years of advancing experience in agricultural quality assurance, commodity quality control, or food safety management, including at least two years in a supervisory or coordination capacity.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of grain, oilseed, or dry commodity grading, moisture testing, pest control, and storage requirements compliant with standards such as SON, Codex Alimentarius, and export norms.
  • Experience managing vendor compliance and enforcing contract quality specifications with third-party suppliers.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for data management, reporting dashboards, and digital inspection platforms such as ERP systems like Odoo.

Key Competencies

  • Strong ability to design systematic quality workflows implementing control points at critical stages.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills to manage vendor relationships while upholding quality standards firmly.
  • Detail-oriented analytical skills for scrutinizing laboratory data, detecting inconsistencies, and determining quality issue root causes.
  • Leadership capabilities for remote supervision of field teams and vendor accountability.

Working Conditions

  • Primary work arrangement is fully remote based in Lagos State, leveraging digital tools including video verification and reporting software.
  • Occasional site visits to aggregation centers, warehouses, or vendor locations may be necessary for audits or establishing protocols.
