This role is based in Kampala, Uganda, and focuses on supporting financial accounting activities across the Sudan and several countries in the SSA Cluster 2, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Mauritius, and Mozambique. The accountant will collaborate closely with the Managed Service Provider (MSP) and British Council controllership teams to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and compliance with corporate policies.

Key Duties

  • Execute month-end and year-end accounting tasks such as trial balance reviews, manual journal entries, and processing off-system payment requests with rigorous accuracy and adherence to policies.
  • Manage customer transactions and income collection efficiently, conduct daily cash reconciliations, uphold the integrity of cash handling and refund procedures, and ensure alignment with treasury policy, including submission of relevant banking documentation.
  • Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless finance service delivery and assist country business units and operations teams in adopting MSP-supported financial processes, escalating issues as needed.
  • Plan and prioritize personal workload effectively, manage competing deadlines, ensure high standards of financial administration, and coordinate tasks with others to meet agreed financial procedures and reporting timelines.

Candidate Profile

  • Solid knowledge of statutory accounting principles, including accrual accounting and understanding financial transaction impacts.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in accounting roles.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
  • Experience working with SAP financial systems.
  • Fluent verbal and written English skills plus native or fluent Arabic language capability to support Sudan operations.
  • Desirable Qualifications and Skills: Experience in an international organisation setting; familiarity with relevant software applications; strong financial analytical skills; possession of a recognised accounting qualification.

  • Contract type: Indefinite
  • Salary: UGX 3,398,336 per month
  • Location: Kampala, Uganda
  • Application deadline: 16 September 2026 at 22:59 UK time
