About the Role
The British Council facilitates access to UK English language and other qualifications through its Examination Services, which administer a variety of UK exams such as IELTS, Cambridge English, Aptis, IGCSE, O and A Levels, ACCA, and others across Cameroon including Bamenda.
As an Invigilator, you will be crucial in supporting the smooth delivery of these examinations at various venues by working closely with British Council staff, venue personnel, and service providers during test days.
Role Purpose
Ensure all examinations under British Council standards are conducted seamlessly, maintaining high standards of customer service, exam security, and administration to uphold the organization's integrity and reputation.
Main Responsibilities
- Arrive punctually at the test venue and communicate timely if delays or absence occur.
- Adhere strictly to prescribed standards and procedures as trained and outlined by British Council and exam boards.
- Be knowledgeable of emergency protocols for the testing site.
- Vigilantly oversee exam sessions to prevent any breaches of exam rules.
- Assist supervisors in delivering a consistent and positive experience for candidates, enhancing the British Council's image.
- Securely account for all exam materials and hand them over accordingly.
- Accurately document exam assignments including reports, logs, and claims as required.
- Comply with organizational policies including Data Protection, Child Protection, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Diversity, and Anti-Fraud measures.
- Report incidents or breaches promptly to supervisors and cooperate to ensure candidate wellbeing, following emergency procedures as needed.
- Provide clear guidance and respond to candidate inquiries to ensure smooth customer flow.
- Manage candidate entry/exit, identity verification, and test day photography per exam specifications.
- Ensure special arrangements for candidates are implemented as necessary.
- Participate in all required briefing and training sessions including mandatory modules covering key policy areas.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Proven customer service experience, particularly engaging professionally with children, young adults, and parents.
- Experience operating in a fast-paced environment and managing small teams or demonstrating leadership potential.
- Track record in implementing change and embedding new work processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child welfare practices.
- Familiarity with examination environments.
- Experience managing computer-based exam delivery.
Additional Information
- Location: Bamenda, Northwest Cameroon.
- Contract Duration: 2 years with potential extension.
- Remuneration: Consultancy fee of 2000 XAF per hour.
- Language: Minimum English proficiency at CEFR B1 level (equivalent to Cambridge PET, IELTS 5).
