Job description

Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina seeks a vigilant Security Guard dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for UN premises, staff, and visitors. The Security Guard will operate under the Head of Administration’s supervision and the direct guidance of the Security Assistant, working on rotating shifts around the clock.

Key Duties

  • Manage access control by verifying and screening personnel and vehicles entering UN premises, ensuring unauthorized individuals do not gain entry.
  • Operate technical screening devices and security equipment, including emergency key systems, video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire safety systems, public address systems, and electronic access controls.
  • Conduct regular patrols of internal and external areas, monitor security conditions, and report any irregularities or risks promptly.
  • Provide emergency response support by implementing established procedures during incidents, including firefighting measures and communication protocols.
  • Maintain all relevant logbooks and documentation, support organized event security, and assist with minor maintenance activities such as watering compound greenery.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary education certificate.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in security services, including access control, surveillance, patrolling, and security reporting.
  • Familiarity with Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluency in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and working knowledge of English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional security training, certification, and licensing.
  • Experience handling emergency situations such as fires, medical incidents, evacuations, and security threats.
  • Prior security experience in international organizations or diplomatic contexts.
  • Certifications in fire safety and first aid training are desirable.

Security Guards will wear prescribed uniforms and carry approved use-of-force equipment. Shifts are either 8 or 12 hours, covering 24/7 security for the premises.
