About the Role
This role supports the Building Resilience and Inclusive Development for Governance and Equality (BRIDGE) Project, aiming to enhance gender-responsive, transparent, and accountable governance, with a focus on increasing women's leadership and participation. The Communications Analyst will develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to ensure project visibility, influence public discourse, and strengthen stakeholder engagement in alignment with UNDP and African Development Bank requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously refine the BRIDGE Project Communication and Visibility Plan, ensuring coherence with project goals, donor expectations, and timelines.
- Align all communication efforts with UNDP corporate policies, brand guidelines, and AfDB visibility standards to maintain consistency across platforms.
- Perform stakeholder mapping and audience segmentation to target key groups with customized messaging.
- Create clear, evidence-based messaging that highlights the project’s impact on governance and inclusion.
- Embed communication planning into all stages of project design and implementation for proactive, result-driven outreach.
- Identify opportunities to enhance visibility through milestones, policy dialogues, and high-level events.
- Lead development of compelling communication materials such as human-interest stories, feature articles, press releases, speeches, and digital content suitable for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms.
- Translate technical information into accessible content and document project achievements through photography and videography.
- Manage creation and publication of knowledge products including reports, policy briefs, and toolkits, ensuring quality and branding compliance.
- Oversee the project’s digital communication strategy, maintaining updated web and social media content to engage audiences continuously.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national and international media; organize press briefings, interviews, and events to increase visibility.
- Coordinate with the UNDP Country Office Communications Unit to ensure consistency with branding and messaging.
- Contribute to donor and corporate reporting by providing evidence-based communication inputs aligned with results-based management principles.
- Capture and share lessons learned and good practices to support organizational learning.
- Maintain an accessible digital repository of communication and knowledge materials to preserve institutional memory.
- Facilitate stakeholder knowledge sharing through diverse learning events and dissemination strategies.
- Coordinate communication efforts among implementing partners, government bodies, civil society, and other stakeholders to ensure unified messaging.
- Build communication capacity among partners including government, CSOs, women and youth-led groups, and media actors.
- Support advocacy and stakeholder engagement initiatives that promote inclusion and amplify marginalized voices.
- Develop monitoring tools and indicators to assess communication performance and visibility impact, using data to guide decisions.
- Track media coverage and digital engagement, reporting regularly on analytics.
- Ensure compliance with branding, gender-responsive and inclusive communication standards, safeguarding principles, and risk mitigation.
- Perform other relevant duties as required for organizational effectiveness.
Institutional Context
Reporting to the Project Manager and coordinating with the UNDP Country Office Communications Unit, the incumbent will lead communication, visibility, and knowledge management for the BRIDGE Project, ensuring strategic outreach and public engagement that supports project goals in line with UNDP and AfDB standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or related discipline. A bachelor's degree with an additional two years of relevant experience may be considered.
- At least 2 years of relevant national or international communications experience for candidates with a Master’s degree; or at least 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and web-based management systems; advanced ability with spreadsheets and databases.
- Desirable skills include photography and video production, experience with social media platforms and tools (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube), and prior involvement with UN, international organizations, or donor-funded projects.
- Experience in communication capacity building, digital engagement, networking, and partnership development is advantageous.
- Fluent oral and written English is mandatory; knowledge of local languages such as Mandinka, Wolof, Fula, or Jola is beneficial.
