About the Organization
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) coordinates inter-agency humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies and natural disasters. Working under the Humanitarian Coordinator, it disseminates information to humanitarian communities, government entities, and donors, while supporting resource mobilization efforts. OCHA has established decentralized sub-offices in newly accessible or underserved regions to enhance coordination and advocacy, particularly in response to Ebola virus outbreaks.
Job Responsibilities
- Drive the official vehicle assigned, handling transportation of mail, documents, goods, and facilitating errands to local authorities and banks.
- Welcome official visitors such as consultants and experts at the airport, assist with immigration and customs procedures as needed, and provide transport during their assignments.
- Perform daily vehicle maintenance checks including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires.
- Manage minor repairs independently; arrange for major repairs and ensure vehicle cleanliness and readiness.
- Maintain accurate records of official trips, mileage, fuel consumption, servicing, and ensure the vehicle's technical documentation and insurance are current. Ensure first aid kits and spare parts are available in the vehicle.
- Work on cost reduction by using the vehicle appropriately and maintaining comprehensive logs.
- Provide logistical support for organizing office seminars and workshops.
- Handle all procedures and actions required in case of vehicle accidents.
- Undertake additional duties aligned with skills and assigned by the Office Chief.

Qualifications and Experience
- At least post-primary education; a diploma in mechanics or an automotive certificate is advantageous.
- A minimum of two years’ experience as a driver demonstrating safe driving and knowledge of minor vehicle repairs is required.
- Experience within the United Nations system, especially with OCHA, or international NGOs is preferred.
- Familiarity with the eastern DRC region and proficiency in driving armored vehicles is beneficial.
- Possession of a valid driving license is mandatory.
- Ability to work independently, in a multicultural environment, and under stressful or unstable conditions.
- Basic computer skills (office software) are necessary.
- Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written French is required; knowledge of English and other UN official languages is a plus. Local language skills are advantageous.
