Staff Software Engineer

About the Role

BJAK develops technology products utilized by millions of users throughout Southeast Asia. As these products and systems continue to grow, we require highly skilled technical leaders to address complex engineering challenges and elevate the overall engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and implementation of major product features, systems, and engineering initiatives.
• Architect scalable and reliable solutions including backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure components.
• Actively contribute through coding, prototyping, conducting code reviews, debugging, and resolving production issues.
• Make vital architectural decisions, balancing factors such as speed, scalability, reliability, cost-efficiency, and maintainability.
• Translate ambiguous product requirements into clear technical strategies and actionable execution plans.
• Enhance engineering quality by promoting robust system designs, thorough testing, security measures, observability, and development practices.
• Lead mission-critical projects and provide mentorship to engineers across various teams.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering with a focus on delivering production-ready systems.
• Extensive knowledge in backend, frontend development, distributed systems, API design, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Proven skills in system design and architecture for complex, high-scale environments.
• Strong coding proficiency and a passion for remaining hands-on in development.
• Demonstrated history of leading significant engineering projects from inception through production deployment.
• Capability to make informed technical trade-offs, influence engineering teams, and resolve challenging production issues.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in scaling engineering teams, systems, or development methodologies during substantial growth phases.
• Exposure to operating across multiple products, different markets, or countries.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position. Our global hiring spans diverse countries and time zones. Candidates must be able to function effectively within a distributed, fast-paced international team, collaborating seamlessly across locations.

English is the primary language for communication within global teams, so strong English language skills are essential.
