Welding Inspector / QA Engineer

Job Overview

Located in Auckland, this permanent full-time position is for a skilled Welding Inspector / QA Engineer at a reputable engineering and fabrication company. The role demands a practical approach coupled with expert knowledge of welding quality standards and comprehensive quality management systems. The primary focus is to guarantee that welding and fabrication work adheres to the highest industry standards while driving ongoing improvements within the company's quality procedures.

Key Duties

• Examine weld preparations, fit-up, welding procedures, and final welds to ensure quality.
• Confirm adherence to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Assess welder certifications and related welding documentation.
• Detect weld imperfections and advise on necessary corrective measures.
• Create and update Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Plan and oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) tasks.
• Evaluate NDT findings and ensure all corrective actions are completed satisfactorily.
• Maintain detailed weld maps, registers, and inspection documentation.
• Ensure material identification and traceability protocols are followed.
• Prepare thorough inspection reports and maintain quality records.
• Manage and enhance the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
• Provide support during internal and external quality auditing processes.
• Participate in investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions.

Candidate Profile

• Possess an AS/NZS 2214 Welding Inspector qualification or an equivalent certification.
• Alternatively, hold AS 1796 Certificate 10 or similar welding inspection credentials.
• Demonstrated experience in the inspection of welding and fabrication work.
• Familiarity with inspecting structural steel, piping systems, pressure piping, or heavy fabrication projects.
• Comprehensive understanding of welding standards and quality criteria.
• Experience with WPS/PQR documentation, welder certifications, weld mapping, and inspection log keeping.
• Proven ability to operate or manage an ISO 9001 Quality Management System effectively.
• Meticulous attention to detail combined with strong documentation skills.
• Excellent communication capabilities with effective stakeholder management.
