Job description
Position Overview
The Utility Worker will support the cleanliness and maintenance of the hospital environment, ensuring a safe and sanitary setting for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties encompass a broad range of housekeeping tasks including cleaning, floor care, waste management, laundry, and emergency spill response.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness by sweeping, mopping, dusting, and shampooing carpets and upholstery across hospital areas.
- Perform specialized floor care such as scrubbing and waxing to preserve flooring conditions.
- Handle removal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials timely and safely.
- Respond to chemical spills, blood spills, and flood cleanups efficiently following safety protocols.
- Assist with laundry-related duties and prepare rooms for patient use according to hospital standards.
- Clean interior windows and apply salt to outdoor areas during winter months to prevent hazards.
- Perform thorough cleaning of isolation rooms to minimize infection risks.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum educational requirement of Grade 12/GED or credible equivalent work experience.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction within a healthcare setting.
- Preferred candidates will have prior experience in cleaning and floor maintenance operations.
- Languages: Multilingual ability is considered an advantage, with a preference for candidates fluent in French.
Working Hours and Terms
- This is a full-time, long-assignment temporary position requiring an average of 75 hours bi-weekly.
- Typical shift schedule runs from 7:30 PM to 3:30 AM, including every other weekend worked.
- The assignment spans approximately 21 months, with potential date modifications as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage range: $20.74 to $21.56.
