Role Purpose
The Underwriting Assistant supports underwriting teams by managing new and existing business within the Operations team. Reporting to the Underwriting Assistant Team Leader, this role coordinates closely with various underwriting groups across multiple lines of business.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist underwriters daily to meet portfolio targets across diverse insurance lines.
- Summarize slip terms, calculate premiums and exposures, and ensure accurate entry of submissions, quotes, risks, endorsements, and transactions into the Everest Underwriting System for proper management, statistical, and regulatory reporting.
- Conduct data accuracy checks on underwriting information, verifying entries made by Business Process Outsourcing teams.
- Organize and archive all risk data and correspondence in the document repository to maintain a comprehensive audit trail.
- Ensure all underwriting details are included timely for peer review, risk entry, and data quality assessments; manage proper indexing and updating of electronically submitted underwriting information.
- Maintain tools containing critical underwriting information to facilitate compliance with sanctions, fraud prevention, and financial crime checks before and after binding policies.
- Provide administrative assistance for credit control inquiries, data quality initiatives, and process improvements.
- Offer support to underwriting teams across other business classes when required.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Operations and Team Leader.
Required Skills and Experience
- Professional interaction with external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with underwriting and facultative insurance and reinsurance procedures.
- A minimum of two years' relevant experience supporting underwriting functions.
- Knowledge and experience with core commercial insurance lines such as Accident & Health, Aviation, Casualty, Financial Lines, CPR, Energy & Construction, Marine, and Property.
- Ability to interpret slips from the aforementioned lines is essential.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize effectively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- Proactive, capable of independent and entrepreneurial work adhering to the highest ethics and professionalism.
- A customer service mindset viewed as a key differentiator.
