Job description
Role Overview
Timmons Group is seeking a dedicated Underground Utility Locator to support our Survey Group based in Richmond, VA. This role involves assisting survey crews through the identification and marking of underground utilities for diverse projects. The position offers a combination of fieldwork and office tasks tailored for suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately locate and mark underground utilities utilizing electromagnetic equipment and other geophysical techniques.
- Identify all types of utility lines, whether conductive or non-conductive, including water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber optic, PVC, and any other subterranean infrastructure impacting excavation sites.
- Mark utilities using flags or paint and compile detailed sketches of findings for client reference.
- Potentially learn and apply survey control techniques and locate marked utilities using conventional survey instruments such as robotic total stations and RTK GPS technology.
- Manage upkeep of survey equipment, supplies, and company vehicle.
- Collaborate effectively within team settings while also being capable of independent work when required.
Candidate Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED, ideally with five years’ experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) designation and field surveying.
- Thorough knowledge of ASCE 38-02 standards and quality levels relevant to utility locating.
- Experience operating robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment is advantageous.
- Ability to obtain and maintain federal security clearance.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD is a preferred asset.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
- Willingness to travel occasionally as part of job duties.
Compensation and Additional Details
The anticipated salary range for this role is $21 to $28 per hour with eligibility for overtime. Offers are influenced by factors such as experience, skills, education, and role complexity. The company also offers a comprehensive benefits package.
