Role Overview
Join Ridgeline as a Staff Performance Engineer dedicated to advancing lightning-fast user experiences across complex enterprise web applications. This role focuses on optimizing front-end performance, improving client-server interactions, and leveraging data-driven insights to enhance application responsiveness and reliability on a modern investment management platform.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead strategy initiatives to elevate frontend performance across sophisticated React applications, ensuring improved scalability and responsiveness.
- Analyze and optimize browser rendering processes to enhance key user workflows.
- Identify and resolve inefficient API calls, excessive client-server communication, and frontend bottlenecks.
- Establish and track real-user performance metrics, driving continuous improvements.
- Create and refine tools for browser instrumentation, synthetic testing, profiling, and application observability.
- Design scalable performance monitoring and regression detection systems for production environments.
- Collaborate with product and platform teams to improve architecture and set frontend performance standards.
- Investigate complex production performance problems with ownership and urgency, delivering root cause solutions.
- Mentor peers and influence technical choices to boost performance, code quality, and maintainability.
- Foster a collaborative culture focused on learning, teaching, and ongoing enhancement.
Candidate Profile
- At least 8 years in frontend or application/performance engineering roles.
- Deep knowledge of browser rendering pipelines, JavaScript execution, and modern web optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with React or equivalent frontend frameworks, focusing on performance tuning.
- Proficient in analyzing network behaviors, caching, API patterns, and client-side bottlenecks.
- Familiar with real-user monitoring, browser profiling, synthetic tests, and observability tools.
- Strong debugging skills within modern web environments and effective communicator across engineering teams.
- Committed to technical leadership through mentorship and collaboration.
- Eager to embrace emerging technologies and develop domain expertise in complex business contexts.
- Enjoys fostering a fun and engaging workplace.
Desirable Additional Experience
- Building high-performance, data-centric browser applications (e.g., analytics, observability tools, trading systems).
- Working with client-side data and visualization frameworks such as Apache Arrow, AG Grid, DuckDB-WASM, Perspective.js, D3, Vega, ECharts.
- Optimizing large data rendering, virtualized tables, memory consumption, and client-side computations.
- Experience with synthetic monitoring, browser automation, or frontend observability tooling.
- Understanding distributed systems, event-driven, or service-oriented architectures.
- Improving performance in complex, large-scale enterprise SaaS applications.
- Knowledge of Core Web Vitals, browser networking, accessibility, and frontend quality assurance best practices.
