Job description
About the Role
Join Mitti by SafetyCulture, a global technology company focused on creating tools that enhance the productivity of three billion frontline workers worldwide. Our team of nearly 1,000 members operates with the agility of a startup but at big tech scale, providing every permanent staff member with equity, fostering shared growth. We are currently expanding smartly, integrating AI, visionary goals, and real empowerment.
As a Software Engineer II on the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) team, you will develop backend services and features aligned with our senior engineers' architectural direction, deepening your expertise in the identity domain while we upgrade our platform.
You will work primarily with technologies including Golang for backend development, identity and access management protocols such as OpenID Connect and SAML, AWS cloud infrastructure, Auth0, Kafka, and PostgreSQL databases.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and support backend services within a large-scale SaaS platform, covering distributed systems and associated data storage solutions.
- Take ownership of feature development from concept through to deployment, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers.
- Develop and maintain user authentication and management workflows including signup, login, multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and user orchestration, advancing your knowledge in identity management.
- Assist in transitioning away from legacy identity systems safely using feature toggles, maintaining backward compatibility, and gradual feature rollouts.
- Prioritize security throughout your work by managing credentials and tokens responsibly and flagging any security concerns promptly.
- Engage actively in code reviews, testing processes, and continuous enhancement of engineering methodologies.
- Create foundational capabilities that are user-friendly and easily consumable by other engineering teams, treating them as customers.
- Embody SafetyCulture’s core values: Customer Focus, Transparency, Team Collaboration, and Bold Action.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong programming skills in back-end languages and frameworks, with an emphasis on scalable system development; experience with Golang is highly favorable.
- Demonstrated history of independently managing and delivering software features in a team-based environment.
- Proficient in relational data modeling and PostgreSQL, including schema design, safe migration practices, and query performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services, particularly AWS, including service deployment, operations, and debugging in production.
- Understanding distributed system principles such as API design, handling retries, idempotency, timeouts, and eventual consistency.
- Familiarity or practical experience with authentication or identity technologies, including login/signup processes, token management, and standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, or single sign-on solutions. A willingness and enthusiasm to deepen knowledge in this area is essential.
- Experience developing multi-tenant architectures where organizational boundaries and memberships must be maintained securely and scalably.
- Commitment to producing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code and actively participating in constructive code reviews.
Behavioral Competencies
- Ability to independently drive well-defined tasks to completion without daily guidance.
- Good judgment in determining when to escalate issues or seek assistance, avoiding unnecessary delays.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Focus on building solutions beneficial to other teams and users rather than just personal convenience.
- Resilience and adaptability working in a domain undergoing active re-architecture with shifting priorities.
Artificial Intelligence in Work
- Regular usage of AI-assisted coding tools with informed critical evaluation regarding correctness, security, and quality of generated code.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to automate tasks or integrate intelligent features during development.
- Daily practical use of AI tools is expected; however, leadership in AI tooling adoption or defining standards for others is not required.
