Software Development Manager, Prime Video - Linear Discovery

Data indicates that Linear TV users establish steady, habitual viewing patterns, spending more time on the platform and engaging more regularly than viewers limited to traditional video-on-demand. To support these habits effectively, it is crucial to deliver smooth and personalized content discovery through scalable, reliable backend services. The Linear Discovery Service (LDS) team is responsible for critical infrastructure that governs the presentation of live TV content. This includes managing the composition of the homepage experience, search functionalities for live programming, and determining content collections and carousels' display and rank across Prime Video interfaces to help millions of customers find their preferred live shows effortlessly.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a software engineering team tasked with developing and enhancing the page composition engine that decides the arrangement and presence of carousels and linear content collections on Prime Video.
• Establish and steer the technical direction and strategies that optimize content section placement guided by customer engagement and business criteria.
• Make architectural decisions to create scalable services integrating recommendation systems, balancing feature deployment with technical debt management.
• Maintain high operational standards for team services, ensuring efficient caching and content delivery systems that support low-latency access for millions concurrently.
• Recruit, nurture, and retain exceptional engineering talent; oversee performance appraisals, provide career guidance, and foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years professional experience in engineering.
• At least 3 years managing engineering teams.
• Over 8 years leading multi-tier web services design and development.
• Comprehensive understanding of engineering methodologies covering the full software/hardware/network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code review, source control, build, testing, certification, and live site operations.
• Experience collaborating effectively with product and program management teams.
• Skill in designing and architecting both new and existing solutions with sound design patterns ensuring reliability and scalability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating effectively with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, explain software features, designs, and product strategies.
• Proven track record in recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and managing engineering teams to enhance skills and drive productivity.
