Job description

About the Role

As part of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services, the Network Lifecycle Management (NLM) team develops and operates software critical to managing the world's largest and most advanced cloud network. This team automates network device deployment across over 30 regions, orchestrates real-time configuration updates without impacting customers, and builds intelligent systems that predict and respond to demand in advance.

We seek an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a group of engineers responsible for creating software systems that automate network resource management and reservation across AWS networks. These systems support efficient capacity planning and expansion to handle growth in traditional and AI/ML workloads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a software engineering team spanning multiple experience levels, fostering a culture of ownership, customer focus, and engineering excellence aligned with Amazon's Leadership Principles.
  • Recruit and build a diverse, inclusive, and talented team reflective of AWS's global customer base.
  • Oversee delivery of high-availability, large scale software managing network resource inventories, reservations, and device lifecycle operations.
  • Lead technical design reviews ensuring architectural choices optimize maintainability and rapid delivery.
  • Define and monitor engineering metrics to continuously enhance velocity and quality.
  • Maintain system reliability via operational dashboards, alarms, on-call rotations, and comprehensive runbooks.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses of operational events and implement systemic fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote automation to eliminate manual work and improve lifecycle processes.
  • Develop a 1 to 3-year technical roadmap in collaboration with principals and senior leadership.
  • Translate business and infrastructure needs into prioritized engineering backlogs.
  • Identify innovative opportunities using machine learning, analytics, and cloud-native architectures to enhance automation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Network Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide clear communication on progress, risks, and proposals to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Influence technical direction across teams via well-documented narratives, design documents, and PRFAQs.
