Role Overview

We seek a skilled Shopify App Engineer to lead development and enhancement of our Shopify integration layer. This position is focused on Shopify app development rather than theme customization. You will work with various components including Checkout UI Extensions, Web Pixels, Customer Events, Theme App Extensions, webhooks, attribution, order data, GraphQL APIs, and post-purchase user experiences. The role requires a deep understanding of Shopify's backend architecture to maintain reliable integrations despite evolving Shopify APIs and platform updates.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and improve Togethr’s Shopify app using Shopify CLI, App Bridge, GraphQL Admin API, authentication/authorization mechanisms, and proper access scopes.
• Create and sustain Shopify extensions across checkout, thank you, order status pages, and customer account interfaces, ensuring they are lightweight, reliable, and non-intrusive.
• Manage event collection through Shopify Web Pixels and Customer Events to track activities like product views, cart additions, checkout progress, and purchases, understanding event architecture and browser limitations.
• Implement robust journey attribution capturing URL queries, identifiers, cart and order attributes, coupon usage, and cross-page persistence, avoiding data duplication or conflict.
• Build and maintain dependable webhook listeners for key order lifecycle events including creation, updates, cancellations, refunds, app uninstall, and compliance events, focusing on verification, idempotency, retry logic, and error recovery.
• Demonstrate strong practical expertise with Shopify’s GraphQL Admin API handling orders, customers, discounts, fulfillments, metafields, shop data, subscriptions, pagination, scopes, rate limits, and version upgrades.
• Create clean Shopify-native storefront integrations using Theme App Extensions, App Blocks, Liquid templates, and JavaScript/TypeScript compatible with Shopify's theme editor, avoiding direct fragile theme edits.
• Investigate and resolve issues impacting customer journeys such as missing or duplicate events, attribution errors, webhook failures, incorrect data, and authentication or API versioning problems.

• Multi-market and multilingual support, merchant onboarding automation, Shopify-native configuration, and App Store compliance
• Automated testing of extensions and platform migration tasks

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 3 years of Shopify app development experience
• Strong proficiency in Shopify CLI, App Bridge, GraphQL Admin API, Checkout UI Extensions, Web Pixels, Webhooks, Theme App Extensions, OAuth and session-token authentication, access scopes and permissions, and metafields
• Solid JavaScript/TypeScript and React skills
• Experience with Node.js, REST APIs, GraphQL, JSON/event payloads, HTTP, async event-driven programming, Git, and debugging production webhooks and APIs
• Knowledge of architecture concepts such as idempotency, event deduplication, retry mechanisms, and webhook reliability
