Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Senior Web & Video Player Engineers proficient in JavaScript and web video playback technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing scalable, high-performance streaming video features on web and Connected TV platforms such as Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast boxes. Collaboration with product managers and engineers to deliver reliable, end-to-end playback experiences is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement new video player functionalities across diverse platforms.
  • Develop and enhance video player modules using frameworks including Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka.
  • Identify and resolve playback issues such as buffering delays, latency, and live streaming complexities.
  • Analyze quality of experience (QoE) and player performance metrics to optimize real-world playback performance.
  • Contribute to React Native-based player implementations for Connected TV and multi-device contexts.
  • Create automated unit and end-to-end testing suites and utilize RESTful APIs to ensure stable integrations.
  • Work within agile teams and provide comprehensive technical specifications and documentation for playback features.

Core Qualifications

  • More than 7 years of experience in web development focusing extensively on JavaScript and video playback technologies.
  • Proven track record of building and supporting video players and live streaming components specifically for web and Connected TV platforms.
  • Expertise with streaming libraries like Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, including tuning and troubleshooting live streaming playback.
  • Strong debugging skills to optimize playback health, touching on start times, rebuffer events, and stability.
  • Deep understanding of streaming protocols, live playback mechanics (including latency, live edge, and drift), adaptive bitrate (ABR) logic, and digital rights management (DRM) systems.
  • Fluent English communication ability for explaining complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously in a dynamic remote setup.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with video quality of experience (QoE) metrics, ABR algorithms, and analytics tools such as Conviva or Segment.
  • Experience with development environments like Kepler or VegaOS.
  • Knowledge of Node.js and backend service integrations.
  • Background in large-scale live sports streaming projects.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate distributed global teams.
