Job description
About the Role
Join a global software firm specializing in products that support mission-critical systems across regulated sectors. This senior-level engineer position focuses on platform development, using Go to build a cloud-agnostic Kubernetes platform from the ground up. Your work will include creating Kubernetes Operators and controllers to manage provisioning, upgrades, scaling, and recovery through code. The APIs you design will abstract the complexities of various cloud environments.
This is a greenfield project designed for rapid horizontal scaling, and you will play a crucial role in mentoring peers and establishing software development best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Go applications for Kubernetes platform automation.
- Design and implement Kubernetes Operators and controllers for cluster lifecycle management.
- Architect APIs to harmonize cloud-specific differences.
- Collaborate with Kubernetes architects and Site Reliability Engineering teams to define technical direction.
- Mentor and set standards for engineering excellence within the team.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in production-level Go programming; alternative languages considered include Java, C++, or Rust with preference for Go.
- Deep knowledge of Kubernetes including Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), reconciliation loops, and controller-runtime.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in software or platform engineering roles.
- Experience with distributed systems design and failure mitigation.
- Hands-on experience managing and operating Kubernetes clusters at scale in production.
- Strong background in automated testing across unit to full cluster levels.
- Expertise in cluster security, including RBAC and secrets management.
Technologies and Tools
- Kubebuilder, Operator SDK, and client-go frameworks.
- GitOps continuous integration/delivery using Argo CD or Flux.
- Infrastructure as Code tools such as Helm and Terraform.
- Multi-cloud environments including AWS, Azure, GCP, and private data centers.
- Fleet orchestration platforms for large scale cluster management.
- Monitoring and observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki.
- Service mesh technologies like Istio, Linkerd, or Cilium.
Additional Desirable Skills
- Experience designing and versioning Kubernetes APIs for long-term use.
- Developing Operators handling backup, restore, or complex resource orchestration.
- Familiarity with managed Kubernetes services such as Rancher, EKS, AKS, or GKE.
- Understanding of policy-as-code, admission controllers, and container security scanning.
Why Join
This is an exceptional opportunity to work on a pioneering greenfield Kubernetes platform designed for full cloud and data center neutrality. The platform enables seamless application deployment across public clouds and private infrastructure with all aspects of upgrades, failover, and disaster recovery automated and transparent to customers.
As a senior individual contributor, you will influence engineering standards and technical strategy, collaborating on a high-impact project alongside Kubernetes specialists and SRE teams, without management responsibilities. The platform is architected for rapid and extensive scaling as the Dublin team expands.
