Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior UniData Developer skilled in developing and maintaining payroll, HR, and benefits modules. This full-time position operates during US shift hours (6 PM to 3 AM IST) across locations in Trivandrum, Hyderabad, and Noida. The role requires an independent professional capable of managing complex technical challenges, elevating team engineering standards, and responsibly integrating AI-assisted development tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, debug, and maintain production-quality UniData BASIC code daily for payroll, HR, and benefits systems.
- Lead the full cycle of technical design, implementation, and deployment of sophisticated features.
- Set and uphold rigorous standards for UniData BASIC code quality, error management, file locking, and system performance.
- Utilize AI-assisted programming tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code to enhance development efficiency, and mentor peers on their prudent use considering UniBasic environment nuances.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex systemic issues in extensive payroll production platforms.
- Conduct code reviews and deliver constructive feedback to continuously improve team output.
- Steer architectural and technical design dialogues, fully document decisions, and proactively manage risk and technical debt.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers by working alongside them, guiding best coding practices beyond mere code reviews.
- Work closely with Product Management, QA, and Customer Support teams to translate intricate requirements into stable, maintainable solutions.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years hands-on experience with UniData, UniVerse, or equivalent MultiValue BASIC platforms.
- Advanced understanding of payroll or HR domain logic including tax, garnishments, and benefits.
- Expertise in UniData internals such as file locking mechanisms, READU/RELEASE discipline, SELECT cursors, MATREAD operations, and batch or phantom processing techniques.
- Proven professional experience employing AI-assisted coding tools.
- Strong background in Agile/Scrum methodologies, including sprint planning and technical contribution.
- Familiarity with Git workflows, collaborative code review, and team development environments.
- Excellent written communication skills for design documentation, peer review comments, and issue escalation.
- Capability to manage large legacy codebases independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SB+ or other fourth-generation languages (4GLs).
- Knowledge in REST API design and integration.
- Development experience in Java, JavaScript, or Angular frameworks.
- Prior leadership or mentoring experience within engineering teams.
