Senior Software Engineer (C++/Rust)

The engineering team faces technically demanding challenges involving data protection, encryption, and secure systems. As part of this important product development phase, the successful candidate will influence technical decisions and take ownership of crucial technology areas rather than maintain legacy software.

Responsibilities

• Develop critical components of a security-centric systems platform utilizing C++, C, and Rust.
• Design and implement low-level features handling encryption, secure data processing, and key lifecycle management.
• Create dependable methods for the storage and retrieval of encrypted data.
• Architect communication and integration layers among various technology stack sectors.
• Address complex challenges related to memory management, input validation, application security, and system dependability.
• Participate in architectural planning and evolution of the platform.
• Advocate for rigorous standards in testing, code review, documentation, and code maintainability.
• Diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues spanning multiple system layers.
• Mentor and support fellow engineers as the team scales.

Requirements

• Robust commercial experience programming with C and C++.
• Practical familiarity with Rust development.
• Strong grasp of systems programming and native software creation.
• Comprehensive understanding of memory management and principles of secure software engineering.
• Background in encryption, cryptography, or key-management concepts.
• Experience with encrypted storage/databases such as SQLCipher.
• Knowledge of interaction boundaries between C/C++ and Rust, including foreign function interfaces (FFI) and interprocess communication (IPC).
• Ability to translate technical designs into dependable production-quality code.
• History of contributing to technical decision-making and adhering to engineering best practices.
• Comfort in mentoring or assisting other software engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct hands-on experience with SQLCipher, encrypted database solutions, or secure storage systems.
• Advanced knowledge of applied cryptography and encryption methodologies.
• Awareness of security frameworks or standards like NIST and FIPS.
• Prior professional exposure to cybersecurity, privacy, encryption, or secure communications domains.
• Experience operating within highly regulated or compliance-driven software environments.
• Proven involvement in taking new system-level products from inception through to production deployment.
