Java Software Engineer - Backend (Fintech)

About the Role

We are looking to hire an experienced Backend Engineer responsible for designing, building, and supporting backend services and APIs that drive both our internal systems and customer-facing platforms. This role involves collaboration with diverse teams to develop robust, scalable, and secure applications utilizing technologies such as Java with Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and improve backend services using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs focused on high performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Manage PostgreSQL databases including designing schemas, optimizing queries, and tuning for performance.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and testable source code in line with best industry practices.
• Investigate and resolve production issues while enhancing system stability and monitoring capabilities.
• Engage in code reviews, contribute to architectural design discussions, and participate in sprint planning and technical decision-making.
• Document system architecture, APIs, and processes comprehensively.
• Adapt and thrive in a dynamic, agile workflow environment.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Proven expertise with Java and proficiency in the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience in schema design and query tuning.
• Strong knowledge of fundamental software engineering concepts such as object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience working with version control systems like Git and familiarity with structured development workflows.
• Hands-on experience in designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Effective problem solver, collaborative team member yet capable of independent work with a self-motivated approach.
• Positive attitude toward continuous learning and skill development.
• Willingness and ability to undertake support roles such as production issue standby.
• Comfortable leveraging AI technologies to boost productivity, debugging, and code creation.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Atlassian tools including JIRA and Confluence.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud solutions like ECS, EKS, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
• Knowledge of containerization using Docker and experience with Kubernetes deployments.
• Exposure to continuous integration and delivery pipelines such as Jenkins.
• Understanding of messaging systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS.
• Experience with caching strategies including Redis and other in-memory caches.
• Use of monitoring and logging frameworks such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack.
• Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with security protocols including OAuth2, JWT, and IAM for authentication and authorization.
• Domain expertise in trading platforms or cryptocurrency payment systems is advantageous.
