Job description

About the role

Jacobs is dedicated to solving complex challenges across thriving cities, resilient environments, critical missions, scientific discovery, and advanced manufacturing. We are currently seeking an accomplished Senior Associate Architect specializing in Data Centres to join our Auckland-based team. This leadership role involves spearheading architecture design and delivery of major data centre projects within New Zealand and contributing to Jacobs' growing Data Centre capabilities across the APAC region.

In this position, you will take the helm in architectural design leadership, managing projects from initial master planning and concept development through detailed design, procurement, and construction phases. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams both locally and internationally, your efforts will directly impact the delivery of integrated, mission-critical facilities that meet stringent operational and technical standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and documentation across all project stages, from conceptualization through schematic and detailed design to construction completion.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs to develop integrated and technically sound architectural solutions.
  • Support and lead architectural and cross-disciplinary teams across New Zealand, the APAC region, and Jacobs' global delivery network.
  • Engage directly with senior client stakeholders to capture and document precise project and program requirements.
  • Provide design leadership that balances quality, schedule, budget, and project scope objectives.
  • Review technical submissions, respond to contractor requests for information, and conduct site inspections as necessary.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level architects and actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the Data Centre team.
  • Utilize digital tools such as Revit, Rhino, and BIM coordination workflows effectively.
  • Enhance Jacobs' Data Centre architectural capabilities, helping to lead increasingly complex projects across the region.

Candidate profile

  • Extensive architectural design and delivery experience within Data Centre projects is essential, with a solid grasp of their unique technical, operational, coordination, and documentation requirements.
  • Professional architectural qualification and current registration as an Architect.
  • At least 15 years of relevant architectural experience in New Zealand.
  • Proven expertise in managing design processes from concept through detailed design phases.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction documentation, contract administration, materials, New Zealand building codes, and standards applicable to Data Centres.
  • Experience collaborating directly with senior client stakeholders to refine and document project requirements.
  • Strong skills in multidisciplinary coordination, working alongside engineers and specialist consultants.
  • Track record of supervising and directing design professionals effectively.
  • Excellent client management, communication, leadership skills, and commercial acumen including managing project timelines and budgets.
  • Capability to lead across geographically dispersed and international teams.

Why work with us?

  • Engage in a robust project pipeline with ongoing growth prospects involving pioneering data centre projects.
  • Work alongside high-profile hyperscale and enterprise clients.
  • Collaborate with expert architects, engineers, and digital infrastructure specialists.
  • Advance your career in a rapidly expanding sector that focuses on mission-critical, sustainable, and AI-adapted facilities.

Additional information

This role offers a unique blend of hands-on design leadership coupled with a chance to influence the expansion of Jacobs' Data Centre architecture capability. Operating within a connected APAC and global network, you will contribute to knowledge exchange, mentor others, and help lead the design of complex Data Centre projects.
