Role Overview

Join Thomson Reuters Labs, the AI-focused research and development branch of Thomson Reuters, where pioneering applied AI/ML solutions across legal, tax, risk, and news sectors is our core mission. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will spearhead research projects from concept to deployment, driving innovations particularly in legal intelligence, tax automation, and regulatory compliance. Your role encompasses translating business challenges into scalable technical implementations, mentoring fellow scientists, and shaping the technical vision of your team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a PhD or Master's degree with equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years hands-on experience developing and deploying production-grade information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, or generative AI systems using contemporary methodologies.
  • Proven leadership in managing comprehensive AI project lifecycles in collaborative, cross-functional settings.
  • Exceptional technical assessment skills and sound judgment.
  • Strong communication abilities to effectively influence technical strategy.
  • Experience creating innovative methods tailored to complex professional domains like medical, tax, or legal fields.
  • Expertise with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, agent frameworks, tool-integration approaches, and orchestration models.
  • Published research in respected conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, or KDD.

Compensation and Additional Details

Base salary range for this role varies by location, e.g., in Ontario, Canada from 100000 to 145000 CAD annually. The compensation package includes an annual bonus potential tied to enterprise and individual performance.
