Senior Algorithm Engineer - Location Based Services

Overview

The TikTok Location Based Services (LBS) Platform seeks to establish a comprehensive global Location Based Service database and deliver high-performance LBS functionalities that connect users with nearby merchants and local services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop algorithms for in-house construction of POI (Point of Interest) data, encompassing data mining, quality assessment, consistency checks, and intelligent review mechanisms.
• Create and implement core Agent modules including tool invocation planning, memory management, skill orchestration, and retrieval methods, emphasizing self-healing features, fallback plans, and handling of edge cases.
• Establish an Agent evaluation framework by defining success criteria, designing regression tests for systems with non-deterministic outputs, and quantifying compromises among cost, latency, and quality metrics.
• Lead the integration of large language models into POI scenarios by performing fine-tuning, model distillation, knowledge base construction, and retrieval system development to enhance POI data quality.
• Achieve efficient engineering outcomes by utilizing AI coding workflows and AI toolchains to independently deliver from algorithm design through deployment.
• Develop profound knowledge of POI data scenarios, identifying problems through data insights, and continuously refining algorithms through iteration and optimization.

Required Qualifications

• Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems by systematically breaking down issues, testing hypotheses promptly, and avoiding ineffective trial-and-error approaches.
• Sound system design skills focusing not only on model performance but also on system robustness, including fallback strategies, fault tolerance, and edge case management.
• Solid programming fundamentals, with proficiency in data structures and algorithms and capability to write clean, debuggable, and maintainable code.
• Hands-on experience and deep understanding in at least one of these areas: data mining, deep learning, computer vision, large language models, or masked language models.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in fine-tuning large language models and conducting preference learning.
• Development or design experience with Agent, Skill, and Memory modules.
• Engineering expertise with production-level non-deterministic systems such as recommendation engines, search platforms, or content understanding systems.
• Proven track record with AI coding workflows and successful cross-domain project delivery from end to end.
