Job description

Job Overview

The Scaffold Helper supports Scaffold Builders by assisting in the assembly and disassembly of wooden structures such as scaffolds, concrete forms, tunnel supports, and temporary shelters following blueprints or company instructions.

Key Duties

  • Assist in erecting and dismantling scaffolding; inspect and organize scaffold components.
  • Handle loading and unloading of scaffold materials and equipment.
  • Help set up hoisting equipment to raise and position scaffold parts.
  • Utilize ropes, harnesses, or ladders to access scaffold locations safely.
  • Interpret drawings to correctly assemble scaffolding components.
  • Join scaffold sections by bolting or screwing parts together.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of scaffolds using measuring instruments.
  • Cut and modify scaffold parts with hand and power tools for proper fit.
  • Select appropriate rigging equipment such as cables and pulleys based on load requirements and project conditions.
  • Assist in fabricating, installing, and maintaining rigging and support systems including slings, hoists, and ladders.
  • Maintain scaffolding materials in organized and proper order.
  • Observe and uphold company core values, safety codes, and conduct standards.
  • Exercise the right to refuse unsafe work and comply with all safety procedures.
  • Report incidents, hazards, and near-misses promptly to management.
  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Participate actively in workplace inspections, safety meetings, and assigned training.
  • Contribute suggestions to enhance workplace safety.
  • Complete any additional responsibilities assigned by field supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Level IV: Over 36 months of heavy industrial scaffold experience or relevant certifications.
  • Level III: Between 24 and 35 months of related scaffold experience.
  • Level II: Between 12 and 23 months of related scaffold experience.
  • Level I: Up to 11 months of scaffold experience plus at least 1 year in industrial roles.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand instructions and technical documentation.
  • Own hand tools as specified by the company’s minimum tool list.
  • Completion of safety training including confined space entry, lockout-tagout (LOTO), and working at heights.

Physical Demands

  • Capacity to work in all weather conditions and at various elevations.
  • Comfort working in windy, dusty, and noisy environments with heavy equipment and materials.
  • Ability to respond to auditory signals like alarms and bells.
  • Required use of safety harnesses when working above 4 feet.
  • Physical stamina for prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 25 lbs, and manual handling of objects and tools.
  • Good vision for close and distant work, including color and depth perception.
