About the Role
Amentum, a prominent global provider of engineering, technical, and professional services to the US government and allied sectors, is recruiting a Safety Inspector for a specialized US Navy project located on Diego Garcia island. This role supports the implementation and enforcement of a comprehensive safety program aligned with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and enforce a Safety Program that aligns with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual.
- Perform ongoing safety inspections and oversight to ensure adherence to operational and site-specific safety protocols.
- Document safety evaluations through detailed inspection and monitoring reports, highlighting observations and recommended corrective measures.
- Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, compile precise incident documentation, and suggest preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
- Update safety records as necessary to maintain accurate and compliant asset safety documentation.
- Carry out risk analyses to identify hazards and apply mitigation strategies to safeguard personnel and assets.
- Regularly check work sites for proper use and functioning of safety equipment and safeguards.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to site staff to enhance safety awareness and compliance.
- Ensure all safety documentation is timely, accurate, and meets organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership, supervisors, and contractors to synchronize safety efforts with operational goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven background in safety inspection or program management, ideally within military or government contexts.
- Knowledge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual and related safety standards.
- Capability to prepare and maintain thorough safety inspections, incident reports, and documentation.
- High school diploma or equivalent credential.
- Strong skills in hazard detection, risk evaluation, and development of corrective action plans.
- Excellent organizational and analytical capabilities with meticulous attention to safety details.
- Competence with fundamental computer tools and safety management software.
- Possession of a valid passport with at least one year remaining validity at hiring and ability to travel internationally.
- Successful fulfillment of contract-related medical examinations and ongoing compliance during deployment.
- Proficiency in English sufficient for contract duties and emergency procedures comprehension.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related technical field.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Experience working in austere overseas environments with multinational teams.
- Strong presentation and training abilities for safety education initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The position is stationed in Diego Garcia, a remote British Indian Ocean Territory supporting US Government work. Work settings include offices, industrial areas, warehouses, ports, airfields, and outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, humidity, adverse weather conditions, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work hours may involve evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended periods according to operational needs.
Physical demands include extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, stair climbing, lifting of weights up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and capability to operate indoors and outdoors. Meeting medical, security, and deployment criteria for remote overseas assignment is mandatory.
