Job description
Role Overview
As Xiaohongshu (RED) expands globally, we require a dedicated risk engineer based in the US to ensure our risk and safety systems, platforms, and data infrastructure operate autonomously outside China. You will be solely responsible for adapting, integrating, and maintaining local risk systems to support independent operations in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of an established risk engine, platform, and data infrastructure originally developed in China, applying necessary localization, integration, and enhancements to enable independent functioning within the US market.
- Implement upgrades and improvements from headquarters (HQ), perform integration, local testing, and iterative iteration to fulfill region-specific technical and business requirements.
- Serve as the primary steward for system stability—oversee monitoring, establish alerting protocols, conduct troubleshooting, manage rate-limiting, degradation, failover procedures, and lead incident responses proactively and independently.
- Ensure all local systems adhere strictly to US data privacy regulations, including compliance standards such as CCPA.
- Work closely with the HQ risk team in China by maintaining synchronized system versions, collaborating effectively across time zones using English and Mandarin communication.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related disciplines.
- At least three years of solid backend development experience with strong programming and engineering fundamentals.
- Demonstrated capability to fully own a system lifecycle: development, customization, iteration, and independent management of production issues including on-call responsibilities.
- Familiarity with high-scalability and high-concurrency system architectures and best practices in stability engineering like monitoring, alerting, rate limiting, system degradation handling, disaster recovery, and observability.
- Exceptional ownership mindset with the ability to work autonomously.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin to facilitate cross-border HQ collaboration.
- Preferred: Experience in risk control, trust & safety, content moderation, or managing cross-border operations and deployments.
Benefits and Opportunities
- Complete ownership of RED's US risk engineering, spanning local development through system stability and operations.
- An impactful international position managing one of the industry's most complex and large-scale risk platforms operating independently outside China.
- Close partnership with elite engineering, algorithm, and product teams at HQ, delivering profound technological influence.
