Job Overview
This role involves operating independently with minimal oversight to prepare detailed, specialized reports related to tax refund audits. The auditor conducts thorough audits on refund claims including detailed examinations of large accounts to detect any non-compliance with established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously review refund regulations to ensure compliance with authority policies on refund limits, risk controls, and authorizations.
- Create and refine assessment templates and audit tools aligned with operational guidelines to support timely analysis of refund requests.
- Stay updated on industry developments across sectors such as business, insurance, telecommunications, and consumer goods to incorporate evolving tax practices into audit reviews.
- Maintain and update comprehensive refund manuals, eligibility criteria, and legal documentation by taxpayer category, integrating them into computerized audit systems for efficiency.
- Organize and prioritize refund applications by tax and industry type, forwarding them to appropriate audit teams for evaluation.
- Examine legal documentation for validity and ensure all required supporting documents accompany refund applications before case assessment.
- Conduct desk audits by collecting relevant data and liaising with stakeholders including account managers, taxpayers, banks, audit bureaus, and government entities to secure essential information and clarifications.
- Utilize public resources to investigate taxpayer business profiles including structure, scale, operations, and jurisdictions.
- Analyze taxpayer financial information, including income statements and revenue streams, to assess their fiscal status against industry benchmarks and select suitable assessment methods.
- Identify high-risk and potentially non-compliant areas within tax declarations and coordinate internally to mitigate risks such as tax evasion.
- Consolidate legal and financial findings, evaluating them against predefined eligibility and refund criteria to recommend approval or rejection based on policy compliance.
- Prepare audit and tax assessment reports to determine appropriate refund amounts, managing lists of compliant taxpayers for payment authorization.
- Monitor objection and appeal cases, collaborating with legal departments to resolve disputes and provide necessary clarifications on audit outcomes.
- Maintain and update refund-related data systems ensuring all audit evidence and findings are systematically documented and accessible for inter-agency exchange.
- Draft comprehensive audit reports summarizing recommendations with supporting evidence for review and validation.
Educational and Experience Requirements
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or an equivalent field is required. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in a relevant auditing or finance role.
